The Director, Society Relations, Americas will oversee the partnerships with CFA societies and volunteer groups in the region, developing and implementing strategies, business models, and tactics that align with CFA Institute’s mission and strategic objectives This position will proactively lead and deepen relationships with societies, coordinate CFA Institute activities in the region and within individual markets, ensure alignment of objectives and coordination of outreach by other functional teams working with or through societies. The position will directly contribute to setting and implementing CFA Institute strategic objectives and work plans in given markets; serve as Market Lead in priority markets or “Centers of Influence,” facilitating relationships joint planning, and alignment of objectives with our largest societies; and will review and monitor progress toward targeted goals.
The Director, Society Relations, Americas will be responsible for facilitating professionalism and good governance at societies, for coordinating consistent implementation of the Society Engagement Framework to ensure effective society consultation efforts by CFA Institute teams; delivery of high Society Member Service Standards, including continuing professional development and CFA Institute programs and initiatives through societies. The position may directly manage other Society Relations staff serving societies in the Region, to include effective goal setting, direction, leadership, and oversight to ensure high standards of service.
It is a requirement of this position to have a strong cross-organizational understanding of key initiatives and to proactively represent, promote and further these directly to local stakeholders and/or through societies, in collaboration with specialist staff from CFA Institute as needed. These include advocacy, institutional, credentialing, diversity, and brand awareness goals and objectives, as well as oversight of professional staffing and funding of societies under the Societies 2.0 organizational initiative.
The Director, Society Relations, Americas will be based in Charlottesville or New York (Americas), and will be supported by the Head, Global Society Relations.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree is required; advanced degree is preferred.
Minimum 10 years of experience in the investment industry, not for profit environment or professional membership organizations.
Strong understanding of governance and non-profit board management principles and best practices.
Highly collaborative style with proven experience in building strong relationships and effectively influencing stakeholders at multiple levels in a variety of local markets, understanding local needs and opportunities
Fluency in English required, proficiency in another language preferred
Very high level of organizational and time management skills
Excellent consulting, problem solving, and analytical skills
Excellent communication skills including written, verbal, listening, and presentation; comfortable and competent presenting to large audiences
Strong cultural compatibility including fit with CFA Institute’s key and unique global leadership competencies.
Must demonstrate outstanding judgment and mature business skills with the ability to establish a strong rapport with volunteer leaders, and senior industry practitioners.
High level of organizational and time management skills and flexibility in competently juggling competing priorities and changing expectations.

Experience in project management, with skills necessary to interpret what is needed for the success of a project and to create appropriate schedules for timely delivery.

Travel will be approximately 20-30 percent of the time, including some global travel.
