Who we are looking for:
The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) has an exciting opportunity for a highly-motivated and enthusiastic Associate Director, Membership Recruitment and Retention to join our fast-paced Member Services Department in support of ASCO’s nearly 45,000 members worldwide. The selected candidate will oversee and lead the direction of membership recruitment and retention along with ASCO’s exhibit booth strategy while effectively managing and coaching staff members.
What you will do:
Create, optimize, and direct the execution of strategic member recruitment and retention strategies and tactics that support the member value proposition to key member segments and lead membership strategies that are in line with the Member Services Department’s growth and goals
Collaborate across departments to create an integrated value-based recruitment and retention complete life cycle plan, including effective membership materials to increase new members, membership renewals, and overall retention rates
Develop, implement, and direct the integration and fulfillment of recruitment and retention strategies and communication/promotion schedules, while continually reviewing ongoing trends and reporting to provide recommendations
Work with colleagues on creating statistical data that show current and future trends on a weekly/monthly/annual basis, summarize data to provide recommendations and analysis for decision making, and create and manage membership recruitment, retention, and member exhibit booth budgets
Lead direct reports and provide ongoing professional mentoring, assist in their expansion of learning, provide them with the tools to help build their knowledge, skills, and growth capacity; and serve as a knowledgeable resource for new and current department staff
Attend Member Exhibits, the Annual Meeting, and other events to ensure the management and fulfillment of meetings are supporting the department strategic goals, and represent the Member Services Department during ASCO functions, courses, and classes
What you will need in order to be successful:
7 plus years of experience working with associations including a focus on membership recruitment and retention programs
Strong understanding of membership life cycle – including recruitment/acquisition and retention, reinstatements, membership reporting and budgeting
A bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or a related field; having a master’s degree or an association certification is a plus
Experience with reviewing and analyzing membership reports and statistics; a comfort level with preparing detailed spreadsheets and creating high-quality PowerPoint presentations
Hands-on experience working with an Association Management System (AMS) or Customer Relationship Management system (CRM)
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications with advanced Excel skills; familiarity working with online tools; and an openness to embracing new technology
Superior communication skills including oral, listening and written, including the ability to compose summary reports
At least 3-5 years of supervisory experience, including: managing, mentoring, and developing staff
Effective track record of strategic planning while applying operations experience
Superb analytical skills and ability to think things through, anticipate solutions and next steps, and see the bigger picture, while offering fresh ideas
Demonstrated ability to prioritize and to complete a high volume of work and meet deadlines with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Flexibility to travel domestically and internationally 15-25 nights per year
