The Chief Executive Officer is responsible for all management functions of the Society including oversight for a $6.9 annual budget and a staff of 22 FTE’s and 2 PTE’s. The CEO will work closely with the nineteen member Board of Governors and staff to increase the Society’s public profile, to build a sustainable organization and to expand international membership. He/She is also responsible for establishing and maintaining principles of appraisal practice and a code of ethics for the guidance of Members. The CSE ensures that ASA members enjoy a number of services and benefits including 150 education products, on-line offerings, on site and continuing education courses, professional publications and four professional credentials/certifications as well as several annual conferences.
Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree with at least ten years of senior or executive level management experience. Although academic credentials are essential, there is a strong preference for measurable, successful career experience. Prior experience with a similar size organization or association is preferable; an MBA degree or CAE credential is highly desirable. Essential characteristics include strong communication and negotiation skills, diplomacy, a demonstrated ability to build consensus and to work with a variety of member interests and agendas. Also essential are a visionary leadership style and the proven ability to work with partner organizations.
