The American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) is an international membership association comprised of veterinarians who specialize in the care and treatment of horses. Based in Lexington, KY, the AAEP has over 9500 members in the U.S. and over 60 countries, as well as nearly 40 student chapters at colleges of veterinary medicine around the world. The AAEP is seeking a collaborative, strategic-minded, and execution-driven leader to serve as its first Director of Education. This role will provide some strategic leadership, but primarily execution of AAEP’s educational programming in collaboration with member volunteers, subject matter experts, and staff.
Major Responsibilities include:
Oversee all aspects of educational program development, in concert with volunteer leaders and committee members (including needs assessment, curriculum overview, evaluation and strategic planning) for multiple programs.
Establishing an online e-learning presence for the association, either in partnership or through other collaborative efforts.
Institute and maintain evaluation and assessment plans, including outcome measurements to track success and growth.
Work with member volunteers, staff, and other appropriate groups to develop new and innovative curriculum, maintain updates to existing programs, and develop strategies and practices for curating AAEP’s educational content.
Collaborate with Meetings and Communications/Marketing Departments as needed for onsite logistics of face-to-face programs to support interactive learning formats and marketing content.
Facilitate the transition of current face-to-face programs to blended or e-learning formats.
Review member needs assessments to identify new programming opportunities. Using survey data and past program feedback, understand members’ knowledge needs and collaborate with volunteers, speakers, and subject matter experts to create content delivered through a variety of media.
Identify ways to repurpose programming content through additional channels, such as on our website, in the association’s journal, and through other communication vehicles such as podcasts, social media.
Jointly serve as staff liaison to the AAEP’s educational programs committee. In coordination with committee chairs, coordinate schedules, meeting agendas, and provide facilitation if needed.
Facilitate the integration of other forms of experiential learning into AAEP’s menu of educational program offerings.
The ideal candidate will possess:
Experience with managing adult education, professional development, and continuing education programs in a variety of formats/modes.
Has experience working with volunteer committees in an association environment.
Is a self-driven learner who can make recommendations about how AAEP’s educational programs should evolve, as well as execute the strategy.
Proficiency with web-based tools and technology, and MS Office applications, have excellent communication skills, strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
A background or experience in medical or veterinary medical education.
Equine and/or Veterinary experience a plus.
A bachelor’s degree in adult education, organizational development or related field, plus 3-5 years of experience in a management role.
