Lead membership development and retention programs for the world’s largest mining society. In this role, serve as program manager, team leader and marketing champion to meet annual membership program goals. With a focus on recruitment, retention and engagement, the Membership Manager will drive membership numbers, revenue and the development of Sections and Student Chapters worldwide. Develop and execute annual membership plan designed to exceed revenue and business goals.
Define membership experience standards and expand sections worldwide.
Keep membership structure, benefits and processes fresh and in line with best practices.
Create a membership marketing strategy and execute outreach efforts designed to recruit, retain and engage members.
Analyze internal data and external trends and adjust plan as appropriate.
Manage membership budget and track return on program and marketing investments.
Manage staff, association management partners and outside vendors.
Give presentations and attend conferences, exhibits and other meetings to promote membership in SME.
Prepare reports on the status of projects and progress towards goals for management and board.
Experience and Skills Required:
Seven years of association membership management experience or equivalent marketing in a sales management-related role, with a minimum of five years of marketing, budgeting and supervisory experience. International membership growth experience preferred.
Expert understanding of membership-based programs and principles.
Proven experience managing teams and projects to achieve goals.
Experience analyzing data trends to build a business case for change and/or investment.
Effective communication skills including: public speaking, writing and editing.
Knowledge of association management systems expected. Experience with Personify preferred.
Excellent project management and organizational skills.
Significant experience using MS Office applications.
Additional Position Details:
Accountable for annual membership numbers and revenue goals.
Report to Director of Operations.
Manage three direct reports.
Responsible for Section and Student Chapter development.
Act as liaison to various member committees and groups as needed.
Work closely with Customer Service, IT, Marketing, and Web departments.
Travel up to 20% of the time, including international travel.
Other duties as assigned.
