As a key member of the public affairs team, the Senior Director, Communications provides senior level support to the Vice President, Strategic Communications, with a particular focus on member communication and campaign execution around areas of priority for AGA and its members. Responsibilities/topic areas include but aren’t limited to responsibility in gaming, Get to Know Gaming, vendor management, and team oversight. Reporting to the Vice President, Strategic Communications, the Senior Director will work closely with the entire AGA team (government relations, industry services, research and more) to develop integrated strategies to promote the social and economic value, and the overall reputation of the U.S. casino gaming industry.
Oversee the development of a comprehensive communications/PR campaign to spotlight industry responsibility to customers, communities and employees;
Build and maintain strong relationships with AGA members, industry experts, media, academics, researchers, influencers, and non-traditional allies;
Through coordinated campaigns promote proprietary association research to support key industry and organizational priorities;
Support larger public affairs team on policy and reputational priorities;
Coordinate comprehensive communication strategies to include traditional, social and paid media, stakeholder engagement and deployment, member and employee engagement and more; and
Ensure focus on delivering value for AGA members.
The ideal candidate possesses:
Bachelor’s degree required – preferably in the fields of communication, political science or public policy
Eight years or more experience leading advocacy campaigns, developing and executing complex communication campaigns, and managing multiple projects and internal or external clients at the same time
Vendor and staff management experience a plus
An advanced degree, experience in the casino gaming industry, trade associations or similar advocacy or member organizations is a plus
Strong written communication skills with the ability to tailor a message to a variety of audiences
Track record of high integrity, good judgment, confidentiality and discretion
Strong presentation skills, with the ability to analyze and translate complex data for several unique audiences
Strong project management skills including the ability to effectively manage vendor/partners
Team player who thrives in a high-energy, multi-faceted and collaborative workplace
Exceptional interpersonal skills including the ability to build and maintain strong internal and external relationships
Comfortable around executive level management
Sound decision-making ability, with focus on intelligence gathering stakeholder feedback/engagement
