The Manager, Member Development & Engagement is charged with developing and implementing the membership recruitment and retention strategies for the organization, leading to increased member engagement and revenue growth.
In this capacity, the Manager, Membership Development & Engagement is responsible for development of the overall membership development plan, collaborating with membership, marketing and other related areas on execution. The individual works collaboratively with staff and volunteer experts to ensure successful completion of all of IFT’s membership initiatives. Providing excellent customer service and member satisfaction, the individual is an ambassador of IFT’s membership, ensuring members are aware of the benefits and increasing usage of the benefits.
This role jointly supervises the Coordinator, Membership Development and Section Administration.
Recruitment and Retention
Ensure timely, accurate creation and implementation of the membership development and engagement strategies for all segments of membership, including students and new professionals
Continually seek new and innovative ways to deliver an excellent membership experience through improved processes and procedures, including new member activation, renewals, updating member profile information
Utilize data to develop an understanding of member and customer behaviors to support recruitment and retention activities
Utilize member and customer data and apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to research new member growth strategies and bring forward to team for consideration.
Works with marketing team to recommend and assist with the development of effective communications for member engagement, retention and recruitment. This includes tracking membership recruitment and retention tactics for effectiveness
Support Coordinator, Membership Development and Section Administration to ensure timely billing of monthly membership renewals
Work with Manager, Student & New Professional Relations, on the development and execution of the membership experience for students and new professionals
Coordinate efforts across the organization to identify opportunities to showcase member recognition and achievements
Represent IFT professionally at IFT Annual Event & Food Expo and other organization or industry events as needed
Support relationships with international partners on membership related matters
Develop accurate and timely reports on all membership retention and recruitment activities, including annual membership data summary analysis highlighting trends in membership
Provide insight on Personify data collection needs for membership initiatives
Assists in the development of annual membership budget to support organizational objectives
Monitor membership recruitment and retention related expenses to ensure we stay within budget
Identify additional opportunities to drive member value and revenue across the organization
Supervises Coordinator, Membership Development and Section Administration, directs their work, maintains management of their performance while serving as a mentor and aid in their professional development.
Ensures timely and effective management of vendor relationships as applicable

Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, Communications or related area
Three to five years progressive experience developing and managing successful membership or marketing programs
Prior experience working in a leadership role in an association (or similar role) is strongly preferred.
Experience establishing effective relationships with volunteer leaders
Demonstrated project management
Strong planning and time management skills are required
The ability to prioritize, self-motivate and thrive in a fast-paced work environment is a must
This role requires the drive to meet member revenue growth and retention goals by applying creative problem-solving and analysis to develop and refine execution strategies.
The position will have direct interaction with members, prospective and prospective member companies, requiring strong verbal and written communication capabilities
Demonstrates an understanding IFT’s mission, vision and strategic priorities
Exhibits a high level of organization and attention to detail
Travel 5-10%, domestically, including the ability to occasionally attend evening, weekend and overnight meetings
Sitting for extended periods of time and may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
Ability to exert up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Use of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and handling of other office equipment
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work
