Summary of Position: Work for and promote the goals and objectives of the Catholic Cemetery Conference established by the Board of Directors and implemented by the Executive Director. Primary individual responsible for the graphic design, development and production of monthly magazine and other publications throughout the year. Promotes and sells ad space throughout all Conference publications. Comfortable soliciting articles for publication. Assist in the execution of the annual convention and exposition as the needs arise per the direction of the Executive Director. Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director.
Organizational Relationships: Reports to Executive Director.
Supervision and Guidance Received: Operates with a minimum of direct supervision, exercises independent judgment and responsibility in the performance of all duties. Accepts accountability for all duties, responsibilities and deadlines.
Responsibilities: Graphic design, layout, and publication for each issue ofCatholic Cemetery Magazine and other publications. Consult with Executive Director on a regular basis regarding material for inclusion in magazine, edit articles and materials received for publication, author material for magazine as needed, solicit print bids and sends material to printer, contact members for articles to ensure full magazine layout, proof read all material from printer, prepare production reports to printer, supervise mailing of magazine. Contact potential advertisers on a regular basis, process advertising contracts and maintain adequate records and reports of monthly advertisers. Maintain current media guide and rate sheet and contracts, supervise billing of advertisers and accounts receivables; proof read all material scheduled for publication, work closely with printers; maintain subject files. Develop on-going program to solicit advertising. Prepare text and advertising of membership directory. Assist in annual convention as necessary and develop promotional materials in magazine. Assist the Executive Director in the performance of his/her responsibilities; and perform any and all. such other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director.
Public Relations: Provide information and assistance to Catholic cemeterians and media outlets as needed.
Travel: Travel involved to such meetings as determined by the Executive Director.
Working Conditions: Regular 40-hour work week; exempt from overtime. May be necessary to work extra hours as needed to achieve scheduled deadlines. An enthusiastic collaborator who knows the power of working on a strong, positive team.
Position Requirements: College degree and/or appropriate practical business experience with
a solid understanding of graphic arts, digital distribution channels and the ways a digital audience engages with content on different devices; minimum of five years of experience in writing and production of a variety of publications; knowledgeable in desk top publishing; be flexible and adaptable to changing deadlines; must be able to multi-task on a regular basis; detail oriented; excellent organizational abilities; must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge and/or experience in pre-press or print layout preferred but not required.
Religion: Practicing Catholic preferred. The Conference is a Catholic 501(c)(3) organization and ministry of the Church. The Managing Editor is responsible for advancing the Conference’s religious mission through all aspects of publications and communications. The Managing Editor is expected to be knowledgeable of the teaching and doctrines of the Catholic Church.
