The National Association of Home Builders is seeking an experienced Director, Grassroots Programs to be responsible for managing and administering all aspects of NAHB’s grassroots program, BuilderLink. The individual will identify, recruit and retain NAHB members or people who have direct, personal relationships with lawmakers, and will maintain a database of those NAHB members. He/she will develop and implement grassroots and operational strategies related to Government Affairs’ campaign management; assist with education/training programs, public opinion research and voter mobilization functions; and serve as a chief liaison between Government Affairs, grassroots membership and state and local associations on priority legislative issues. The Director will conduct grassroots outreach and advise NAHB’s membership on political support for legislative issues and candidates. Responsibilities also include advising and assisting state and local associations with the development and implementation of grassroots lobbying programs. The Director will serve as the key staff for organization and implementation of grassroots lobbying in DC and in congressional districts.
Candidates must have excellent verbal and written communication skills; a demonstrated ability to analyze and synthesize complex legislative information and political environment; the ability to balance a heavy workload with short- and long-term project deadlines; and the ability to address changing priorities and work well under pressure. Strong knowledge of political process, grassroots outreach, housing industry, trade association operations, and/or regulatory process is also required. Knowledge of federal legislative process preferred. Candidates should also have strong computer skills and experience with creating and maintaining databases.
Four to six years of political grassroots experience at federal or state level, preferably with experience with trade associations and a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education and experience are required. This position will require an extensive travel schedule.
