ASTRO, the American Society for Radiation Oncology, is looking for an individual with an interest in government relations and healthcare to join our Advocacy team. This position will provide support to the Society’s legislative, PAC, grassroots and compliance activities. Major responsibilities will include scheduling and attending Hill visits and briefings; providing support for our annual legislative conference; assisting in issue research and tracking; working collaboratively to implement a strategic plan to maximize ASTRO’s PAC performance including PAC solicitations, disbursements, and events; implementing and refining our grassroots strategic plan and leveraging of web and social media tools to educate, empower, and motivate our membership; and handling compliance activities associated with required FEC and Lobbying Disclosure Act filings. This position will also help maintain the Advocacy section of the Society’s webpage and research and write articles for ASTRO publications.
Qualified candidates will have:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience; preferably in a related discipline.
One-two years’ work and/or internship experience in a professional office setting preferably in (but not limited to) Congressional offices, political campaigns, the Administration, Government Affairs or Policy.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with ability to learn new web platforms and databases; social media interest/expertise a plus.
Excellent grammar, proofreading, prioritization, and organizational skills.
Ability to work well under pressure and on multiple projects while meeting critical deadlines.
Availability to work overtime/evenings, with advance notice.
Excellent attendance and punctuality.
Ability to travel approximately 5% of the time.
