Direct and assist state lobbying, policy formation efforts and grassroots activities of the Association. Responsible for working with those who represent the interests of the Association before federal, state, and local governments and informing association members of legislative issues and developments. Build a strong grassroots organization to impact federal, state, and local issues related to the convenience services industry. Work collaboratively with affiliated state-level associations and other coalitions to accomplish advocacy goals.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinate and supervise state, local and municipal level lobbying and strategy efforts for Midwest and Western region
Act as a lobbyist at the state and federal level and assist contract state lobbyists with legislative and regulatory affairs
Track legislative and regulatory issues impacting convenience services
Prepare and provide legislative briefings to NAMA’s membership and state councils
Prepare and deliver testimony for state and local legislative and regulatory bodies
Draft legislation, regulatory comments, and assist with day-to-day Federal & State Affairs communications
Identify key industry issues and coordinate state lobbying and legislative efforts for affiliated state-level associations
Ensure compliance with state and federal lobbying regulations
Communicate regional issues, strategies and tactics between state councils and members in the Midwest and Western region
Identify and prioritize state legislative needs
Develop effective intrastate and interstate coalitions and alliances to represent the Association and industry
Build and maintain relationships with allied state associations and state lobbyists
Provide support to NAMA PAC
Coordinate NAMA and allied state association grassroots advocacy campaigns and promotion on digital platforms and other forms of communication including personal outreach.
Develop, coordinate, and attend state lobby days
Technical Requirements – Education, Areas of Knowledge and Experience
Four-year degree is required
Three years state or federal government relations experience is highly preferred, particularly as staff to Congressional or State legislators.
Experience with federal agencies would be helpful in performing duties of the position
Experience with state legislatures or federal elected officials in Midwest and Western region
Trade association experience preferred
High level proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat
