Summary: This Senior Manager position will be responsible for several innovative domains in surgical education and training to address the emerging needs of practicing surgeons, surgical trainees, and surgical teams. The incumbent will be responsible for developing, implementing, evaluating, and promoting the programs within this broad portfolio and will provide Senior Manager-level support for these programs. First, this position will provide Senior Manager-level support for the specific preceptoring, proctoring, coaching, and mentoring programs that focus on surgical and non-technical skills and include verification and validation of skills. The position will also provide Senior Manager-level support for verification and validation of decision-making and patient management skills of residents through management of the review course for oral examinations. Second, this position will provide Senior Manager-level support for specific simulation-based education and training programs that include re-training of Senior Surgeons to serve as teachers using new technologies, use of new technologies in surgical training, and training in robotic surgery leading to credentialing. Third, this position will provide Senior Manager-level support for a variety of courses that address interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism, practice-based learning and improvement, systems-based practice, patient safety, and teamwork. Fourth, this position will also manage education to address specific national needs such as the Program on Optimizing Perioperative Pain Management and perform ongoing horizon-scanning to search for similar opportunities and take steps to create specific programs to address the needs identified. Fifth, the incumbent will be responsible for developing, and managing effectively the budgets of the section, making sure that the programs are implemented in a fiscally sound and sustainable fashion. Sixth, the incumbent will be responsible for pursuing scholarship to evaluate the impact of the programs objectively and contribute significantly to the preparation of Manuscripts, documents and reports that help in disseminating these results. This exempt level Senior Manager-level position will report to the Associate Director of the Division of Education and will also report for several innovative activities directly to the Director of the Division of Education. This position will provide supervisory guidance to a Manager, a Senior Administrator, and an Administrator within the section. Primary Responsibilities:

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position is required to make specific work assignments to others and to ensure their timely and accurate completion. Fiscal Management: This position is required to create and manage the unit’s annual budget, program or project budget. Physical/Work Environment: Fast paced with significant people interaction. No lifting over 20 pounds, minimal reaching bending and stooping. Performs work in a normal office environment with long hours in front of the computer. Other Necessary Requirements: Evening or weekend duties may be required. Moderate travel for activities such as out of town meetings is required.
