In collaboration with both the membership and marketing teams, the new Director of Membership Marketing & Engagement is responsible for defining and communicating AOA member value, planning and executing recruitment and retention strategies, and engaging key segments of the AOA’s physician membership to increase involvement with the association.
The Director will manage a variety of member engagement efforts including member lifecycle communications (such as onboarding, satisfaction surveys, benefit highlights, etc.), member app and community content, recruitment of certified DOs and AOA event attendees, lapsed member feedback, etc.
This position will also be responsible for creating and maintaining a master content calendar for membership communications as well as drafting email, social media, and other content for final approval, and tracking the success of various campaigns to refine future messaging. They will work cross-functionally with the AOIA, AOA specialty board certification services, affiliate relations, physician education, graduate medical education, advocacy, and other departments to engage key constituents and to ensure that membership content is represented across all communications, as appropriate.
The Director of Membership Marketing & Engagement will:
Develop and maintain a membership marketing content calendar to target key constituencies at appropriate times throughout the year.
Work with the AOA Marketing department to produce membership collateral and coordinate timing and content of campaigns around other organizational priorities.
Create and execute on compelling campaigns for member recruitment, retention and engagement across all available platforms and member segments.
Assist with creation and maintenance of content in the AOA member mobile app and provide suggestions for future posts.
Utilize marketing automation system targeting and scheduling tools to increase relevant, timely, consistent communication to AOA members, DOs, and medical students. Maintain email templates in AOA association management system.
Track marketing campaign metrics to assess the effectiveness of messaging and which offerings are most valued for each member segment.
Establish non-intrusive mechanisms to acquire up-to-date demographic and contact information for members in order to improve benefit offerings and personalization.
Coordinate with the Member Resource Center to identify common member questions and concerns and craft communications, FAQ documents, or website updates to clarify where needed. Assist with crafting templated responses to member inquiries.
Conduct member and prospective member feedback surveys to allow for continuous improvement.
Lead marketing of the AOA Masterfile to constituents in the healthcare industry.
This position may be asked to assist other AOA departments with membership or customer service messaging and to help streamline and standardize member benefit communication across AOA channels.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION OR EXPERIENCE
Education: A Bachelor’s Degree or ability to demonstrate equivalent related experience is required.
Experience: Five or more years of experience in marketing content creation and/or member engagement. Recent experience with Informz, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, or other marketing automation systems is preferred.
Licensure or Certification: CAE designation preferred.
The right candidate is an independent worker with a mix of strategic and creative thinking skills, able to demonstrate cross-functional leadership and collaboration, and to execute on agreed strategies and tactics while balancing competing priorities. Must be a self-starter with knowledge of best practices in both marketing/communications and member engagement. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to deliver clear and effective messages to internal and external audiences is required.
