Senior Vice President, External Affairs provides critical leadership at the FAH for the advocacy, political affairs, and coalition strategy for the Federation. This position oversees all digital and creative functions for FAH as well as manages the public affairs/communications team. SVP, External Affairs is responsible for the strategy of the FAH Playbook and the narrative development, both proactive and reactive for tax-paying hospitals.
Manages three-person public relations/communications team and is responsible for strategic messaging for legislative, political, policy, economic, and press initiatives related to FAH Advocacy efforts.
Implements and oversees integrated advocacy platforms, including FAH.org social media, microsites, FAH blog, creative assets (i.e. white papers, infographics, digital videos, and FAH podcast).
Works closely with government relations, policy, and legal teams to ensure integrated messaging to core audiences, including the Hill, Administration, media, DC Influencers, and FAH membership.
Responsible for coalition engagement for FAH, including:
Staff Executive and strategy lead for the Coalition to Protect American’s Health Care.
Staff Executive and founding member of Partnership for American’s Health Care Future.
Staff Executive on the Campaign for Sustainable Rx Pricing (CSRxP)
Additional Coalition work as needed.
Responsible for FAH’s political engagement program, including Independent Expenditure Program and Local Advocacy Program (Grassroots).
Manages multiple vendors including creative, paid digital media, and grassroots.
Staff Executive for FAH Public Relations committee in their advisory role to the FAH Board of Directors.
Reports directly to FAH President and CEO and serves as a key liaison to FAH membership.
Support FAH Communications staff with responses to media stories regarding quality and other issues as well as proactive blogs, tweets, and other communication tools that help position FAH as a leader in the health care quality space.
Qualifications and /or Experience:
Preferred seven+ (7+) years of experience in advocacy, campaign, public relations, government relations, and digital branding experience.
Excellent organizational, written, and oral communication skills.
Communicates easily and effectively with coworkers.
Ability to: (1) maintain the confidentiality of sensitive and confidential issues; (2) work under time deadlines; and (3) work effectively both independently and as a valuable team member.
Self-starter with: (1) a motivated, goal-oriented personality, (2) strong attention to detail; and (3) ability to set priorities and multi-task multiple projects and assignments simultaneously.
Ability to travel occasionally.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
