The National Coalition of Girls’ Schools (NCGS) seeks energetic, collaborative, and strategic candidates for its Director of Communications position. This is a full-time position with competitive salary, commensurate with experience, and comprehensive benefit program. The Director of Communications plays the key advocacy role in designing and implementing communications and marketing plans that promote NCGS strategic priorities, programs, and initiatives to advance girls’ schools. Focus areas include both constituent communications (newsletter, digital and print correspondence, program collaterals, etc.) and public relations (website, social media, blog, publications, videos, press, etc.).
The Director of Communications reports directly to the Executive Director and works closely with all five members of the talented NCGS team as well as third-party vendors, media contacts, and program interns. Since 2013, each member of the NCGS team has worked remotely from home-based or satellite offices and interfaces daily with one another and NCGS member schools using mobile office technology. As a remote position, candidates are welcome to apply regardless of geographic location. Travel to outreach programs, team retreats, conferences, and member school visits is needed, totaling approximately 20 days each year, when health restrictions permit.
Since its inception in 1991, NCGS, supported by an annual operating budget of $1.8M, has built an increasingly strong foundation to advance girls’ schools worldwide. Its membership—totaling 275+ independent, public, charter, and religiously-affiliated schools in 15 countries—has increased significantly; its programs and services have expanded; and an international visibility and influence has grown. Informed by an exciting new global vision, NCGS is embarking upon its fourth decade with an unwavering commitment to elevating women’s leadership worldwide by educating and empowering students to be ethical, globally minded changemakers.
NCGS is an organization on the move. In recent years, by onboarding new member schools and building partnerships, NCGS has expanded its constituent base exponentially via social media, newsletter, video, and website. A growing number of in-person and virtual outreach programs provide important networking opportunities and world-class professional development for educators, researchers, and advocates. Planning is underway for the third Global Forum on Girls’ Education to convene constituents – through in-person and virtual programming – to share ideas and best practices for educating and empowering girls. The Global Action Research Collaborative on Girls’ Education is the world’s first action research program that engages girls’ school educators from around the world in collaborative research initiatives. This recently launched program has expanded the NCGS network of girls’ school educators and delivers valuable research to member schools. Research findings provide data and opportunities for NCGS to develop new advocacy tools to advance girls’ schools worldwide.
Create, manage, and implement a strategic communication plan for outreach within the NCGS global network, including:
Promoting NCGS programs and services to member schools across a variety of channels and platforms
Developing and managing content marketing strategy and collaterals to assist members in advocating for the value of girls’ schools to their key stakeholders
Engaging member schools in advocacy campaigns via social media, blog posts, collective calls for action, etc.
Creating materials (print and electronic) that describe and document the benefits of girls’ schools
Highlighting member schools’ accomplishments and milestones
Managing the development and sales of NCGS print materials
Develop and implement strategic communication and marketing plans to position NCGS as the leading advocate worldwide in girls’ education, including:
Integrating all communications efforts into a strategic and unified framework, developing a comprehensive strategy that coordinates the NCGS brand and various platforms based on member school needs and organizational goals
Serving as the primary content creator, by developing, designing, and distributing collaterals across all channels and platforms
Developing and managing a robust media outreach strategy to advance the NCGS vision and its member schools, including op-eds and press releases
Overseeing and implementing strategy for the NCGS website, blog, and Podcast including content development and effective marketing strategy
Maintaining the NCGS website as a compelling point-of-entry for current and prospective members, sponsors, strategic partners, and the public
Collaboration & Program Management
Partner with and support NCGS team of five colleagues to highlight and amplify their work in the areas of advocacy, research, professional development, and outreach, including:
Positioning the Executive Director as the chief advocate for girls’ schools by securing press interviews, writing speeches, preparing presentations, and leveraging social media
Working in partnership the Director of Research Initiatives & Programs to translate research studies into clear and easy-to-understand narratives and messaging products
Collaborating with the Director of Strategic Initiatives & Professional Development to develop compelling narratives and segmented promotional plans to engage constituents in programming
Partnering with Director of Membership & Outreach to develop and deliver collaterals that enhance member engagement and inform school representatives about the benefits of NCGS
Working with the Director of Finance & Operations to develop budgets and manage expenses for communication platform and initiatives, including the website, technical services, marketing, and promotional plans
Managing the performance and deliverables of third-party vendors, such as graphic designers, videographers, editors, and audio producers as well as mentoring of a part-time intern
Participating in in-person and virtual professional development programs, as requested, to lead media relations, network with member schools, and assist with program implementation.
