The WateReuse Association’s Director of Communications will develop and execute the organization’s communications and marketing strategy, which includes message development, brand identity, and digital media. The candidate will craft informative and compelling materials for a myriad of channels including website, thought leadership articles, e-newsletter, e-mail marketing, social media, and presentations/speechwriting, while maintaining quality control for all organizational communications.
The Director of Communications is responsible for fostering and maintaining relationships with news media, partner organizations, volunteer leaders, and vendors/contractors to advance the organization’s communications and marketing goals. The individual will also build and manage partnerships with internal colleagues to develop communications that support membership development, advocacy, and event marketing.
This position reports to Director of Programs, Communications and Strategic Initiatives and works directly with staff at all levels across the Association.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
Maintain a communications calendar and determine the best method to create, repurpose, and distribute content to different audiences.
Manage content development, production, and distribution of electronic and print communications, including weekly e-newsletter, marketing e-mails, member alerts, educational flyers, and publications.
Manage and oversee website to ensure content is timely and up-to-date.
Manage and engage the Education and Outreach Advisory Group, which consists of diverse representatives from the membership experienced in water reuse communications.
Manage external vendors and consultants that provide graphic design, website maintenance, and communications platforms.
Maintain strategic content partnerships with partner organizations.
Coordinate with Events Director and other staff to develop and execute marketing plans for conferences, webcasts, and events. Develop and maintain marketing partnerships to reach wider audiences.
Coordinate with Policy Director to develop messages that support advocacy goals, including action alerts, press statements, Op-Eds, and handouts.
Communicate with a wide range of national and trade media on behalf of the association, maintaining key media contacts and growing relationships with newsrooms and journalists.
Minimum of 5-7 years of communications experience that includes designing and executing communications strategy; developing communications campaigns; and ensuring brand-management across channels
Exceptional written, oral, proofreading, branding, design oversight, and interpersonal skills; and the ability to communicate effectively to diverse audiences
A broad understanding of current digital technologies and strong knowledge and proficiency in data software: Microsoft Office Suite (required), CRM experience (strongly preferred)
Experience coordinating design and graphic decisions across the organization, particularly website design and content management (WordPress)
Previous experience using email marketing platforms and social media platforms.
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in teams
