WIA is seeking a Director of Meetings and Events to help continue grow the event and to help the association meet its event offering potential. Develops and executes inspired events that capture attention and deliver value to the industry
Works as part of the Meetings and Events team to accomplish sponsorship, exhibition, speaker, and attendee goals.
Supports all internal team members and departments following WIA’s mission and values while promoting WIA’s culture of innovation and achievement
Leads development and implementation of the tactical plans needed to achieve strategic department goals and direction
Collaborates with team members to deliver top line bottom line goals for the Meetings and Events department
Event Logistics and Administration
Budget development and management
Responsible and Accountable for contract negotiations and overall results that are achieved through process
Directs and Supervises activities and results of team members within the Meetings and Events department. Responsible for providing leadership, direction, growth opportunities, and communication
Overall responsibility for the research, inspection, and recommendation of meeting and event sites and services, ensuring they align with strategic direction and allow for minimum financial liability; provides advice based on specialized experience as well as current industry practices and trends.
Directs and manages all activities and required results of vendors that are utilized to achieve the strategic results of the Meetings and Events department
Develops and oversees management of onsite logistics plan for all events
Speaker solicitation and speaker program management
Oversight of printed/designed materials to include, but not limited to, website, signage, badges, show guides/programs, and speaker materials
Assists with oversight of resources implementing event-related marketing and communications programs
Website creation and maintenance
Venue management to include, but not limited to, meeting space assignment, exhibit hall floor plan, rooming lists, menus, audio visual, and room setup.
Location scouting and contract negotiation for future events, golf outings, parties and receptions, and Association meetings.
Secures entertainment for special events as required
Communicates weekly updates and pertinent information on pre-arranged Weekly call with EVP
Performs Weekly status call with team providing insight on strategic direct of Association, department goal achievement and required communication that will assist teams’ success
Works on special projects and other duties as assigned helping to promote department’s success
Assists with Association staff participation in outside events – as needed
Onsite direction and central Point of Contact
Essential Use of Following Tools:
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and email marketing software
Bachelor’s degree required.
Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in event management
Previous Association and/or major event experience is desirable.

This job description provides a general guideline to the most common duties, responsibilities, and minimum requirements for this position. It is not all inclusive and the actual position may vary as circumstances indicate or as determined by the Association. Working hours are primarily a day shift position, but the Director of Meetings and Events may need to work varied hours to include nights and weekends, as business needs dictate during peak time. Travel requirements for this position may be up to 25%.

Members include wireless carriers, infrastructure providers, and professional services firms that collectively own and operate more than 135,000 telecommunications facilities around the globe.
