JOB SUMMARY The Million Dollar Round Table is seeking an Editor with interviewing, writing, and editing skills, as well as magazine production experience, to manage MDRT’s bimonthly magazine, Round the Table.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS A. Establish and maintain the editorial and production schedule for each issue. B. Work with in-house writers and editors, as well as outside contributors, to gather, write and edit all content for each issue of Round the Table. C. Rewrite copy as needed and check all facts. D. Prioritize multiple assignments in a deadline-driven environment. E. Edit all articles, advertisements, and layouts for each issue. F. Manage day-to-day production. G. Manage vendors, to include freelance writers, design firm, printers, and worldwide shipping. H. Manage circulation. I. Oversee post-production activities, including preparing files for translation and digital publishing. J. Develop and maintain an annual budget. K. Create opportunities during in-person and virtual committee meetings, MDRT meetings, and other gatherings of members to collect material to be used in future content. L. Assist in developing and editing written content for various media, including websites, e-newsletters, blogs, and print materials as needed. M. Ensures magazine content adheres to MDRT’s content strategy and is relevant to a global membership.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES • A degree in journalism or a related field • 5 or more years of progressive editorial experience • Excellent writing, rewriting, editing, and proofreading skills (AP Style) • 3–4 clips that demonstrate skilled magazine writing • Solid grounding in journalism ethics and values • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to handle a number of projects simultaneously • Familiarity with business writing and editing • Willingness to learn about financial services profession
