The Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA) is the premier legal association in the state. As a voluntary organization, the Association’s primary focus is to help Illinois lawyers practice more efficiently by providing time and money-saving services, practice resources and continuing education. The ISBA is seeking an outgoing professional to serve as a Section and Committee Staff Liaison to act as the facilitator for Association Section Councils and Standing Committees, the administrative assistant to committee and section council chairs, and the conduit between those groups and professional Association staff. The position also includes occasional section and committee special event planning, coordination, and management.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Prepare, at the direction of the chair, committee/section council agendas and other informational items.
- Be familiar with each committee/section council scope and mission, its activities, and budget.
- Be familiar with the Association’s strategic direction, policies, procedures, and initiatives to answer questions from committee/section council members and to help ensure that their activities are consistent with them.
- Facilitate committee/section council meeting schedules, space needs, and conference calls.
- Facilitate committee/section council activities by promptly referring proposals for Association action to appropriate professional staff or Association leadership.
- Participate in person or via conference/Zoom call at committee/section council meetings.
- In addition to the Annual and Mid-year meetings, attend periodic Saturday meetings at the CRO.
- Assist in the planning, tracking, and execution of events and meetings related to the Association’s Young Lawyers Division.
- Process event registration including any monetary transactions.
- Monitor and overview the section/committee communities on ISBA Central.
- Assist where necessary at CLE programs.

- Substantial organizational skills and flexibility to accommodate last minute change
- Detail oriented
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Ability to work with a team to achieve Association goals
- Courtesy at all times in dealing with the public, Association members, and other staff
- Initiative and a strong work ethic
- Willingness to identify programmatic deficiencies or areas in which the Association can improve its operations or procedures
- Proficiency with MS Word and Excel, Adobe, Zoom and other means of electronic communication
REQUIREMENTS
A bachelor’s degree and/or prior relevant association or business work experience is required.
