The International Leadership Association (ILA) is looking for an experienced Conference Director with expertise planning and executing in-person and on-line conferences. We seek a senior team member who is creative, innovative, and energized by the ILA’s purpose to connect people worldwide to advance the practice and study of leadership for a just and thriving future.
You will join a creative and dedicated staff working with a global Board and membership delivering high-quality programs, events, and services. Our team is committed to both individual and collective success in which individual initiative and effective teamwork have a multiplier effect on achieving the ILA’s goals.
This is a full-time, exempt position with a benefit package that includes individual health insurance and paid vacation, sick time, and holidays. Salary is based on experience. ILA employees commit to a work schedule that accommodates our collective work across time zones and leverages individual productivity. Telecommuting is an option as is working from the ILA office in Silver Spring, MD.
Our goal is to hire in time for the new Conference Director to join current Conference Director and 1,000 members our 24th global conference in Washington, DC from 13-16 October 2022 during which you'll have the opportunity to meet members already working on the 25th global conference next October in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
Provide strategic and operational management of ILA’s annual global conference (held in rotating locations: DC this year, Vancouver next, and previously Geneva and Ottawa) and regional and topical conferences.
Identify potential venues and vendors; negotiate and recommend contracts to insure the greatest financial benefit and least risk; manage relationships and delivery of services.
Develop and manage budgets to meet annual goals and targets.
Cultivate sponsors to support programs and conferences.
Champion new initiative and events to support the growth of the ILA and the profession of leadership.
Oversee the development of the educational program, call for presentations and review process, and schedule.
Lead collaborations with staff colleagues and member teams on programming, speaker recruitment, website content, and marketing collateral.
Supervise conference associates and the conference registration process.
Manage onsite conference logistics with vendors and teams.
Use conference evaluations and analysis to continue improving event quality.
Contribute to the achievement of the ILA’s strategic priorities.
Provide staff support to the Board of Director's fundraising committee.
Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of conference management experience, Certified Meeting Professional desired, but not required.
Exceptional project management skills, with the ability to create and manage timelines, keep teams on task, and create positive experiences for volunteers and members.
Strong event design experience, with knowledge of the latest trends, innovations and strategies in content management and session format to maximize the adult learning experience at virtual and in-person conferences.
Experience working at a membership association with an active and engaged volunteer leaders.
Relentless attention to budgets, details, and deadlines.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
High degree of decision making and problem-solving abilities.
Able to understand and articulate the ILA’s value proposition and the professional needs of ILA’s members.
Commitment to results with the ability to work independently and collaboratively, anticipate tasks and next steps, and assume full ownership for scope of work.
Computer literacy and proficiency working across the Microsoft Office and experience with conference management and association software (we use All Academic, MC Pro, EventsAir, Zoom, and SurveyMonkey).
Ability to travel as necessary, domestically and internationally.
