American Public Works Association (APWA) serves professionals in all aspects of public works by providing innovative education and professional development for individuals working within the public works industry. The Chief Financial Officer / Director of Finance is a critical component of the Finance team as well as our Senior Leadership Team focused on directing the financial aspects of our $25M association with financial oversight of our 62 chapters across North America.
About the Director of Finance / CFO Role:
This position directs APWA’s Finance department by developing and implementing strategies to ensure compliance with financial, audit and tax reporting requirements, as well as business and charitable laws on an association-wide basis, inclusive of local chapter and branch activities. The role also forecasts cash flow position, performs cost/benefit analysis, manages financial statement production, the annual budget process and works collaboratively with the Chief Executive Officer, Board of Directors, Finance and Audit committees as well as the internal Leadership Team to formulate organizational positions and policies on key association matters.

What you will need to succeed:
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree preferred in Accounting and/or Finance
A minimum of eight years of related experience in non-profit with $10M or larger annual budget as well as supervisory experience
Forward progression of increasing responsibilities and work experience
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong computer skills using Office 365 programs
Ability to prioritize workload with multiple projects, detail-oriented with flexibility to serve customers
Comfortable presenting to various audiences, including potential members, volunteers, board members and staff.
