Job Summary
The Scientific Programs Manager is a key member of the Education Department. This role directly contributes to the Society’s mission and business success by managing several programmatic areas of the Society, including facilitating, guiding, and supporting the work of the Scientific and Standardization Committee (SSC).
Under the general supervision of the ISTH Director of Programs and Education, the Scientific Programs Manager is responsible for the overall management of the SSC efforts. The SSC is the primary scientific body of the ISTH on matters related to standardization, nomenclature and guidance on treatment for conditions related to thrombosis and haemostasis. The SSC is made up of 21 topical subcommittees that work to address the clinical and research challenges of the thrombosis and haemostasis community.
The Manager will be supported in this role by the work of the Programs and SSC Coordinator. The Manager works with the Director of Programs and Education in the supervision of the Programs and SSC Coordinator, and is responsible for assigning and monitoring the administrative duties of the Coordinator.
The Manager must have education-related experience as well as advanced project management, communication, and organizational skills. A professional background working in a scientific, medical or education setting or with professional associations or an association management background is preferred. The position requires strong attention to detail, along with strong cross-cultural and cross-functional relationship building. The role works independently within defined schedules to accomplish a variety of complex activities as well as maintain a position of high visibility to ISTH leadership, members and partners. A strong candidate ideally has experience working with physicians, high-level professionals and talented volunteer committees in a scientific or international setting.
Scientific and Standardization Committee Related Responsibilities
Guide and manage the work of the ISTH Scientific and Standardization Committee (SSC) and its Subcommittees by monitoring and updating SSC projects and advising the SSC Executive Committee, while tracking the SSC budget
Support and contribute to the work of the SSC Executive Committee and Subcommittees and proactively contribute, along with the Director of Programs and Education, to the strategic planning during SSC board and Executive Committee meetings
Develop adhoc programs which enhance the reputation and brand of the SSC
Monitor the financial aspects of the SSC with monthly review of and reporting on budget
Supervise the work of the Programs and SSC Coordinator for project work of the SSC Executive Committee, SSC Board and Subcommittees, including coordinating annual meetings, maintaining the website, tracking ongoing projects and drafting weekly, monthly and yearly correspondence, as needed
Oversee and administer the ISTH Grants Program. from Call for Application and adjudication to notice of award and grants management. Collaborate with Finance Department for fiscal grant operations.
With support from the Programs and SSC Coordinator, manage the SSC Subcommittees yearly change-over in leadership and onboarding process, official manuscripts, working group and project requests
Lead the SSC Chairman nominations and election process every two years
Manage the online REDCap registry platform and provide backup for the Programs and SSC Coordinator’s day to day work on the site
General Responsibilities
Collaborate with Education and Outreach Manager and Guidelines Manager, and proactively propose education products stemming from SSC Guidance work
Participate in cross-team training to support ad hoc projects from the Education and Outreach Committee
Work with other ISTH departments (e.g. Meetings, Finance) on larger multi-team projects
Provide support to other Committees and/or ad hoc special projects as they arise, as designated by the Director of Programs and Education or Executive Director

Minimum Education/Background Requirements
Bachelor’s degree
Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in a similar role and track record in education, guidelines, project or program management, ideally in a scientific/medical and international environment
Strong technology skills including proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, project management software, databases and ability to learn new technology platforms
Experience working with and leading Committees, ideally of high-level volunteers
Experience in multicultural settings
Work Environment
This position is mainly sedentary
Occasional weekend work assignments (approximately 2 – 3 times per year)
Required to travel nationally and internationally to annual Congresses, attend guideline panel meetings and administrative meetings (3-4 times per year)
