This position would be a part-time (approximately 20 hours per week) contractor working exclusively for Virginiaforever, although outside jobs that do not involve lobbying on state policy making or a position similar to an executive director would not be prohibited. Compensation would be in the range of $40,000-$50,000 and the length of contract would be 2-years initially to ensure organizational goals are met and sustainable funding is available.

Virginiaforever seeks a self-driven and highly competent executive director to lead and influence our organization towards favorable growth at a time of internal and external change, and to help design and direct strategies that support and enhance our organizational goals. The executive director will become a leading representative for the organization among Virginiaforever members, policy makers and partner organizations. Key goals for the executive director will include raising awareness of Virginiaforever among policy makers and potential members, expanding membership in number and geographic reach, and increasing membership engagement in Virginiaforever’s work. The Executive Director will report to and support the Board of Directors as well as work with the existing management and lobbying team.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong initiative and drive, outstanding communication skills, strong leadership qualities, and good planning and organizational skills. The executive director should strengthen our organizational operations, enhance relations with the media, policy makers, internal and external stakeholders, and surrounding communities, effectively and efficiently direct operational budgets, increase revenues, and provide recommendations to leadership for our business strategy.
Executive Director Responsibilities:
• Engage with community groups across the Commonwealth. • Recruit new members and increase engagement of Board members in Virginiaforever events and activities • With support of the Board and Association Manager develop and execute a plan to grow revenues • Provide recommendations to the Board for organizational strategy and execute and direct associated actions. • Provide recommendations to the Board for organizational policies and philosophies. • Support activities of the Board and related committees • Work with Association Manager on overseeing day-to-day business activities and financial accounts. • Support lobbyist on policy initiatives
Executive Director Requirements:
• College degree in natural resources, political science or related field or work experience equivalent • Extensive knowledge and experience with Virginia natural resource policies, environmental programs and budget process • Highly organized • Project management experience • Highly ethical behavior • Effective communicator with diverse audiences • Motivational skills • Public relations and marketing knowledge • Exceptional interpersonal skills
