Washington, DC-based trade association seeks an individual whose key responsibility is to assist the Government Affairs and Advocacy team with researching legislative issues and federal agency activities and communicating the public transportation industry's position on federal legislative issues to APTA members, Members of Congress, the Executive Branch, and other surface transportation organizations.
Duties include, but are not limited to: Analyzing and organizing information on federal legislation and regulations to facilitate understanding and to assist in the development of APTA’s policies; Preparing legislative alerts, updates, and summaries; Tracking, analyzing and monitoring new legislative summaries and policy, and regulatory proposals; Preparing memoranda, speeches, and talking points to assist APTA officers and executive staff to communicate public transportation views on relevant issues; Preparing statements and reports on matters of interest; Researching and writing APTA testimony; Communicating APTA’s positions on legislative and policy issues; Attending meetings, press briefings, and hearings; Updating the department’s section of the APTA website; and Performing other duties as directed.
Successful candidate will have a bachelor's degree in Transportation, Public Policy, or Public Administration with at least one to two year’s work experience on Capitol Hill or programs related to public policy. Familiarity with federal legislative process including transportation authorization, budget, and appropriations issues is desirable. Must have strong writing and communications skills.
